This is likely your first time to Japan, so we've curated some important info that will hopefully help you make your trip smoother, and created some helpful maps of great spots to check out in Tokyo, Kyoto, and Osaka to possibly add to your journey.

TRAVEL TIPS

Cellular Coverage

An eSIM or renting a pocket WiFi are both great and reliable options to keep in touch on your personal device and connect online during your trip. Pocket WiFis can typically be picked up at airports before you hit your transit to your stay, and are a great option.

Luggage Delivery

When staying at hotels look into luggage delivery services if you're traveling to multiple cities during your stay. Often times your luggage gets there before you do, and it will save you the hassle of bringing it on public transport or in taxis. Not for AirBnBs.

Easy Customs

The 'Visit Japan Web" will help you easily process through customs both when arriving and flying out of Japan. You can add each family member you're traveling with to make the process faster, however person will need their own QR Code when done.

Suica Card

The best way to get around Japan is public transport, & the Suica Card is the way to pay. It's available for Apple Wallet, and you can recharge your Suica card when you need more funds. Sorry Android users, you'll have to get a Suica Card at the train stations.

Navigating

Google Maps is your friend! Street View really works well, and this is exclusively how we got around Japan during our first trip abroad. You can easily set your directions to either Public Transport or Walking, depending on where you're headed.

Cash

Most of the country takes CC, but if you're planning on traveling to smaller towns, or doing certain experiences, Cash in the form of Yen will be key. We recommend using your bank for the best conversion rate to order some Yen before your trip abroad.

Street Karts

If you're planning on being super adventurous and booking one of the Street Kart experiences, you MUST be sure to bring both your Driver's License, as well as an International Drivers Permit. You can attain the latter at your local AAA office, or through an online application. Apply ahead!

Combini

You likely don't consider yourself someone who eats out of convinience stores back home, but in Japan you can! 7-11, Family Mart, Lawsons, they're all great places to get your Egg Sandwich fix every morning, and it's super affordable

Medications

Be aware the some over the counter drugs, ADHD Medications, CBD products, narcotics (obviously), decongestants, medical devices, etc are strictly prohibited. Check with the Japan Ministry of Health website for more info or how to possibly get exceptions. HERE
